Artist's House with Gallery, Studio & Residence

This design takes inspiration from Monet's 'Water Lily' painting, using the leaf of the water lily plant as a conceptual form onto which the architecture may be based. As in the conceptual drawing, I used the pure geometries of the circle and rectangle to roughly mimic the basic shape of a water lily leaf. These shapes helped dictate the architectural forms of the building in plan and section.

Specific programs are allocated to seperate biuldings, with an addition of a 'greenhouse' building in reference to the garden in Monet's 'Water Lily' painting. With transitions in volumes and levels, open and closed off spcaces, the building induces a somewhat playful atmosphere that may be appreciated by an artist. Furthermore, atop the residential wing, is a shaded viewing platform that may be used by the artist to enjoy and possibly paint/draw the vast landcape of the Melville Koppies in Johannesburg.
